Jan 3rd, 2010 - Search Engine Reality – You Don't Want To Be Hit
Marsha Maung

Ten thousand hits...wow, sounds like a lot. Ten thousand hits in a day is a lot of hits in a month! Gazzilion, maybe. But in today's world, will you be proud of having ten million hits a day if you had fifty images, two banners, one advertiser button, one button to twitter, the other to your facebook in every single page of your website because it's all part of your HTML template?
Nah, I could easily gauge the ten thousand hits from you with one single web page if that was the case.
Defining your success in the internet realm by looking for 'hits' is so yesterday...dicth it. Nowadays, what we are looking for is; one, page views and how long the readers were on those page; two, interaction and clicks on links.
In essence, we want more people to go to your web pages and view the content, like it and come back for more. We want to establish connection with the reader, in hope of them buying something from you eventually (e-consumers generally do not buy the first round). By reading into the number of page views that you have generated, the easier it is to determine how interested people are in your articles...or your products/services.
It is a well-known fact that by writing content and putting it up in your blog or website, you are trying to generate healthy page view stats. If you are still using the old-school SEO writing method, ditch it. I've said it so many times and frankly, I am getting so tired of saying it. Ditch it. The pointless ramblings of a writer drunk with caffeine and yet is still capable of putting in five or so keywords into the article is soooo not working anymore.
What you want is content that is original, interesting, contains quality links and information and something people want to come back for. Investing in these quality articles is far more effective than hiring a sales person – you pay once and it keeps working for you, throughout the years, no more fees. It's yours and you keep having more and more sales people!
And of course, the bigger the fan base, the higher the chance of repeat customers. Why? Because it builds branding and trust – and tell me you don't believe branding and trust is a big thing in the search engine marketing world and I'll show you a triangular sun. I even promise to you bring a piece of rock from the sun for you.
The more articles you have out there in cyber space, the better it is at marketing and selling for you. So long as your article remains, the eyeball (exposure) remains. Even if it drops in ranking after a while, what you have are links, relevant content and unique articles that are still linking to your site, which contributes to your search engine ranking.
So, make this a part of your 2010 resolution. Aim for more articles and original content!
