freelance writer tips happy

Having been writing for the past 12 years, some people ask me, 'Don't you get tired of writing every day? How do you end up writing so much over so many years and not get bored out of your mind? How do you find topics to write about all the time?'

Well....under such circumstances, do I really have a choice? It is like asking me whether I would like a cheese sandwich or a cheese sandwich. Yes, I would LOVE to have a cheese sandwich.

Writers have loads to write every day and it is not only punishing to the hands and fingers, it is sheer torture for the brain too. As we all know very well, we can't write without a brain. OK, fine. Ha. Ha. So, we get tired and feel out of sync too like every other worker out there but we deal with it.

But how?

After every article that you write, you need to get out of the chair and go out. If you can't go out, just go freshen up and do something else...ANYTHING else. Read a book, strike a yoga pose, jog around the living room...whatever it is that floats your boat. I read and sometimes sing or try to come up with a song.

This rule not only applies to freelance writers like me but also to everyone else, regardless of your occupation. Doing something creative jogs your system up from the mundane duty of doing the same thing (despite the different topics, writing is still writing when you are sitting there listening to your fingers go tap-tap-tap) over and over again.

Another tip from me is that you work better with two things. One is a checklist; the other is a list of topics. Having a checklist liberates your mind from worries. You stop worrying if you have forgotten anything and a list of topics ensures that you do not forget topics of importance that suddenly popped into your head at the most insane moments of your life (like when in the bathroom applying sea salt to your skin).

When the time comes for you to write (either for yourself or someone else), you have an instant point of reference.

And to answer the question of whether you, as a writer, have to write every day? The answer is....if possible, yes.
