Passionate Writing The Way To Get Going
Marsha Maung
June 17th, 2010

Having been in the writing business for more than a decade does things to you. Makes you think of throwing some clothes into a backpack and walk off into the sunset and never look back.

But here is something that really makes the difference between a writer with a sustainable career and one that will eventually give up because it has become too mundane. One does it for the passion, the other days it for the bread.

Quite frankly, there are days when even the best of writers will feel like they are simply forcing the words together to make a small semblance of sense. None of it is making him feel very proud and yet he continues to put the words on the empty pages.

The passion to communicate, write and inspire has left the building.

Money can only pull you through for so long, trust me on this one. After a while, the money won't matter because you have to be drugged to sleep at night because you are dreading the moment you wake up tomorrow and you have to WRITE. What once was a driving force has become an anchor tied to your feet.

Don't.

If you feel this coming on, here's what you can do. Ask yourself why you continue to write? And ask yourself why you no longer stomp into the office or wake up filled with wonderful vibes about creating yet another masterpiece.

An example that I can give is this. If you asked a teacher what she does for a living, she can give you two types of answers (generally speaking, of course). One, she will say that she is a preschool teacher. Two, she can say that she inspires little kids, takes care of them and give them hope that tomorrow, their future, will be better.

The first answer is from a teacher who has lost the fervor for teaching. The second answer comes from a teacher who is inspired by her work of inspiring others. For a writer, it is the same. If you asked me what I do for a living, I would say that I help my clients come up with good copy so that they can succeed in their businesses and do well in search engines.

I never say I am a writer because that is not the purpose of what I do. Ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing and if you find that you have lost the enthusiasm, inspire yourself. There's nothing impossible when the will is strong.
